This tutorial walks you through capturing images and videos with your VEX AIR Drone. By the end, you’ll know the three ways to capture them, how to view them on the controller, and how to move them to your computer.
To capture from the controller’s screen, select one of the Eye icons in the bottom right of the screen to choose which Vision Sensor to use.

While a video is recording, the screen is outlined in orange and a recording timer appears in the lower right corner. When an image is captured, the screen flashes white.
While the
default_flyproject is running, you can capture images with the Photo Forward and Photo Downward buttons on the screen, or with buttons 9 and 10 on the controller.
You can also use camera commands in a VEXcode AIR project to record video or capture images from either camera:
To view your images and videos on the controller, select the Mission Data icon in the bottom left corner of the screen to open Past Mission Data.
Select a folder to view the images or videos taken during that mission. Folder names show which project was running when the files were recorded. No Mission means the drone was not running a project.
Select a file to open it on the controller screen, or select the Trash icon to delete it.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the screen to play videos and move between the images and videos in the folder.
Select the X in the upper right corner to return to the Mission Data folder.
To move files to your computer, connect the controller to your computer with a USB-C cable.
Open your computer’s file manager, such as Finder or File Explorer, and find the controller. To find which device is the controller, turn the controller off and back on while watching the list of devices.
Open the controller to see the same folders as the Past Mission Data menu, then copy the files you want to your computer. macOS is shown here as an example.
Note: Images are saved as .jpg files and videos are saved as .avi files. You may need to convert them to use them on your device.
